Lectures and exercises cover the following themes:

Patent– why and for what?

What is a patent? What can be patented (what is an invention). How patent is obtained. What are the rights of a patent owner, how these rights can be used (university and patents, patents and open innovation).

Patent application. Parts of the patent application.

Patent claims, description of the invention (title, technical field, the state of art, the subject matter of the invention, examples of using the invention), and figures; how to read and understand patent application (US vs. Europe vs. other countries), how to compose and write a patent application.

Patent information search.

Patent databases, types of patent documents (patent application vs. patent), patent family, types and ways of patent searches, analysis and presentation of the search results, practical exercise.
